Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys

February 23 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

FREE SHOW; TIPS APPRECIATED!

Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys blazed a path up the east coast in 1977. Alvin was selected the “Best New Male Vocalist” by Country Music Magazine.

That 1977 band is reuniting for a special performance at the Saxon Pub, February 23, 2025.

Music writers drained their pens searching for the right words to describe what they saw with their eyes and heard with their ears back in 1977.

The dean of music critics was John Rockwell of the New York Times. When Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys played the Lone Star Cafe, he wrote:

“The whole group is full of fine musicians, and together they make for an evening that is both vastly entertaining and, in a real sense, inspiring, because it makes one realize once again what a wealth of music this country has produced.”        John Rockwell, NYTimes September 17, 1977

The 2025 reunion band features those same musicians who played together in 1977.

Rockwell reviewed the band’s performance at Carnegie Hall in November and in his year end review he put Alvin Crow at the very top of his best-of list:

“The year was full of memorable concerts. Among the best were Alvin Crow at the Lone Star; the Rolling Stones at the El Mocambo Club in Toronto…”       —John Rockwell, NYTimes, December 25, 1977

Mark your calendars and hold this date—February 23, 2025. Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys will perform at the Saxon Pub, 2:30-4:30 pm. It is a free show. Tips are encouraged and appreciated.

Come see and hear Alvin Crow, Gary “Smoothie” Roller, John “Hoggy” Chandler, Ed “Marcel” Vizard, John X Reed, Herb Steiner, and Bobby Earl Smith— the same musicians who took the East Coast by storm in 1977 are alive and kicking in 2025
