Charlie Shafter
October 17 @ 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Charlie Shafter might hail from the great Midwest, a foreign land called Illinois, but for all intents and purposes, he is a Texan. From early days on the road with Matt Martindale and Cooder Graw to helping forge the songwriter legacy at the Blue Light Live in Lubbock, Charlie is about as Panhandle and Lubbock as Panhandle and Lubbock get. I mean have you listened to Charlie Shafter & The Gnomes live at Blue Light? When he sings “Come On Up To The House,” you might as well be at church because the spirit is moving. Charlie was created to write songs that shoot straight through your heart and into your soul.
Leaving Lubbock, Charlie has made a home and family in Ft. Worth, and what a beautiful life that is. That beautiful life and the journey that brought him there have produced some pretty incredible albums.
The eponymous “Charlie Shafter” album and most recently “When I Was Yours & You Were Mine” have inspired a whole generation of songwriters across Texas and beyond. Ask any young or old songwriter and they will point to those albums as peak songwriting and a certain kind of magic that you only hope to ever attain. Fan favorites off of those albums are “Sea Wall” and “Leave Her Wild.” “Billy Creek” and “Dear Diana.” “Actor” and “Chainsaw.”
Charlie is heading into the studio this fall at Niles City Sound in Fort Worth to start recording his new album. Now, we all just have to settle in and wait with bated breath in anticipation to hear his tasteful, intricate fingerpicking and thoughtful lyrics mixed with his voice that makes you believe everything he’s singing.
