John Bush Presents: Queen Daffodil’s Demise
January 12, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
John Bush is a drummer and percussionist, best known for his role as a founding member of the platinum-selling band Edie Brickell and New Bohemians. He has traveled the world playing and recording music, as well as all over Austin, his home for many years. Besides recording and producing music for other artists at his studio, Cicada Moon Studios, John plays in several bands around Austin. He performs weekly at The Saxon Pub with The Drakes and The Patrice Pike Band. He also plays throughout Texas with Cactus Lee, The Season Ammons Band, and Tote, just to name a few.
John has been writing stories since childhood. This year he will publish a novel, Queen Daffodil’s Demise. It’s a cosmic dystopian fairytale about the powers of the mind and the struggles between good and evil. This is his first published literary creation.
John is about to embark on a solo performance/ book reading tour where he plans to incorporate musical elements along with spoken word pieces as well as reading excerpts from his novel. He will make ambient percussion loops live that he will then perform over while reciting and reading from different things he has written.
“My idea is to incorporate musical elements into my book reading. I plan to open each performance by creating unique percussion loops live that I will then read things I’ve written or recite spoken word pieces over the top of the ambient music. I will also talk about and read from my novel. My performance at The Saxon Pub will also be showcasing some of my artwork.
Instead of throwing away my used drumheads, I paint them. Most of them are abstract faces. I’ve been collecting them for years and this will be my first art opening as well.”
