This is what happens when the sidemen get together! The Drakes are a rock and roll band out of Austin, Tx. Comprised of mostly sidemen, they’ve been playing together since the fall of 2006. What started out as a weekly get-together as a way to play music and hang out on their night off, has evolved into Austin’s premiere rock and roll band.

What’s so unique about this band is that all four members sing lead and back up vocals. Their massive set list includes as many original songs as it does covers. But you won’t hear any classic rock or top 40 covers with these guys. You’re more likely to hear NRBQ or the Mississippi Sheiks, than Led Zepplin or Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their original songs run the gamut from swampy Louisiana R&B to Texas soul to Okie rock.

Each member of this bands boasts years of experience as sidemen and frontmen. Some of the bands they’ve been in include Marcia Ball, Alice Cooper, Joe Jackson, James McMurty, Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, Billy Joe Shaver, Tyrone Vaughan, George Devore, Toni Price, Sister Morales, John Dee Graham, and countless others. They’ve recorded on hundreds of albums and played thousands of gigs.

Over the years, mostly from playing their regular show at the Mean Eyed Cat, they’ve developed a loyal following of “ Quackheads”. There is a grass roots, word of mouth, buzz about these guys that just won’t quit.
